Every post has a series of badges, including Facebook at the top for bookmarking. With regard to soliciting people to “friend” me on Facebook, I am skeptical of that approach to marketing because social media marketing can consume a lot of time but the payoff is very difficult to measure.

You certainly may. One very effective way to do it is by using a Trackback to the blog post. When you post about something on my blog on your own and include the trackback URL instead of the regular post URL your WordPress or Typepad blog (with trackbacks enabled) will automatically have a link and excerpt from your post created on my blog, a reciprocal link that is automatic, topical, engages users, and makes sense.
