The Habit of Self-Sabotage
Almost all of us fall into self-sabotaging behaviours. The most
successful people seem to have become so pro-actively self-aware
that they can nip such behaviours in the bud, so to speak.
The Journey
This takes a lot of discipline. Perhaps thats why success is so
often referred to as a journey, not a destination. At every stage
of accomplishment there are new challenges to be met, new skills
to be mastered.
Leaving The “Comfort Zone”
When achieving a certain level of success, its easy to want to stay
there, in our “comfort zone”, yet an immutable universal law seems to
be that maintaining success is challenging… we must continually
improve, and place ourselves in “growing” situations.
In this way income in particular is an indicator of success. You will
notice when you study (the career trajectories of) many successful people
that they master a skill, attain a level of success, leave that playing
field and start over in a new field where they are not much more than
beginners.
Who “Plays To Win”?
Back to “playing to win”… this is true.. and I have been challenged by
this myself in the past. Today I hire salespeople on a regular basis
(I pay them straight commissions on their results) and most, 80-90%
don’t even really get started doing the work… even though the rewards
are very attractive.
What Is The Average Level of Ambition?
I think the attitude or lack of ambition of these guys is just typical of
what goes on in most people’s lives. The average American it seems
is just holding on by his/her fingertips financially… yet when a simple,
starightforward opportunity to succeed is presented, s/he chooses
“safety”.
R.I.S.K.
Thats really the rub. now isn’t it?
Business ownership… or a sales career, entails taking Risks.
Somebody mentioned T. Harv Eker, who again and again reiterates that
a top characteristic of entepreneurial success is the willingness to
assume risk.
Its really FEAR that does folks in, every time.
Only, I think, when the sincere desire for a more free, bountiful life
exceeds the pull of FEAR can that sort of “playing to win” really occur.
